Resting Bison canister created from a hand rolled slab of clay. Why yes throwing a cylinder on a wheel would be faster, but not the same look as you get from slab built. The bull bison on the canister wall is carved into the clay with pine trees embedded in the clay behind him. Eleven different glazes were hand painted on the canister. The resting bison I took a ball of clay and pinched him into shape. While keeping the top of the from drying too much so I could attach him with scoring in a bit of slip. After the bisque firing I scrubbed him with a red brown underglaze then finished painting him with a black glaze to highlight his nose and horns. I didn’t paint over the underglaze to keep the clay texture due to he is the knob for the lid.
